The Competent Persons Scheme is only open to plumbing & heating businesses that work to a minimum trading standard with their customers. The business must have appropriate levels of insurance and ensure that only competent operatives are employed to undertake plumbing & heating work with a minimum level of qualifications or work experience, through on-site assessments.
Operatives must also meet the appropriate qualification criteria to access the APHC Government Authorised, Competent Persons Scheme. In order to self-certify works under the scope of building regulations, operatives must hold the relevant qualifications and provide documentation evidence.
Members have access to all the benefits under licensed membership, plus the ability to self-certify all plumbing and heating works that fall under the scope of Building Regulations, which is a legal requirement. This means members don’t have the hassle and expense of dealing with Local Building Control. Self-certification enhances compliance with regulations, reduces costs and promotes training and competence within the industry and ultimately benefits the consumer. The APHC Competent Persons Scheme allows members to certify the following works:
APHC Competent Persons Scheme members can post all notifications through the online system on the APHC website, for just £1.75 per electronic notification. Other methods of notification are available (postal/phone) at slightly higher rates, please ask for details. Operatives can only notify areas of work in which they have proved competent as detailed on their Gas Safe Register ID card.
