The Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Bill to be debated at Report stage in the House of Commons on 13 October has been introduced by Government to amend the construction contracts legislation contained in Part 2 of the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996 (often referred to as "the Construction Act").
APHC, working closely with the Specialist Engineering Contractors Group and the Federation of Small Businesses - see the proposed Government amendments contained in Part 8 of the Bill as generally helpful in improving cash flow. Unfortunately, in a certain key respect they are unfair and unduly complex. Also they need to go further in improving payment security. The Bill has now reached a critical stage in the House of Commons and the objective is to enlist all interested MPs to support our proposed amendments.
APHC needs your help in achieving this objective. Please contact your local MP using the pre-prepared letter (click here for a copy) to seek his/her support. The letter should also be accompanied by the note on the amendments (click here for a copy). We will keep you informed of any responses and progress with the campaign.
