Last week the Department of Energy and Climate Change announced that householders who become the first to take part in the Green Deal Scheme could be entitled to up to £1000 cash back.
From 28th January 2013, households who use the Green Deal to make improvements to their properties such as loft insulation, solid wall insulation and replacement windows will qualify for the first come first served offer. The time-bound offer is limited to one per household, but can cover a package of improvements as long as the householder is contributing to the installation costs and the work done is overseen by an authorised Green Deal Provider.
Charlotte Murray, APHC PR and Marketing Manager commented: “This is a positive incentive to encourage consumers to take part, however more needs to be done. There is still little or no consumer awareness of the scheme – we would like to see more money spent promoting this initiative to the consumer so installers are not left to do the legwork to recoup the costs of joining the scheme. We still have concerns about the lack of clarity that still exists within the industry. Many installers and advisors are still unsure of the criteria and how the scheme will operate and many are simply choosing not to take part until further clarification is available. The Government needs to do more to ensure the industry is ready for the scheme to start in 2013.
