One of the main aims of APHC is to work together with partner organisations to tackle important industry matters and improve conditions for our members. Below is a list of partner organisations who we work closely with.
SNIPEF (Scottish and Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers Federation) was formed in 1923 and is APHC’s Scottish counterpart. As a members organisation, their role is to provide their members with a high quality service, keep up to date with industry developments and attract new members with a range of benefits.
BPEC is a key provider of training and certification services for the building services engineering sector covering gas, oil, plumbing, electro-technical, heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration industries.
City and Guilds is the biggest name in UK vocational education, with 2 million learners working towards qualifications each year. City and Guilds have been working closely with APHC since the early 1990s to provide content and course material for a range of plumbing qualifications including the newly launched QCF.
JTL is the leading training provider to the building services engineering sectors, working with 3500 businesses and supporting 9700 apprentices across the UK. JTL is APHC’s preferred partner for providing plumbing and heating apprenticeships.
SummitSKILLS is the sector skills council for the building services engineering sector. Created by employers, for employers to improve engagement, safeguarding standards, enhancing quality and raising ambition. Through sector skills councils employers have a direct route to influence strategic planning related to skills training.
IB-PMES (Joint Industry Board for Plumbing Mechanical Engineering Services in England and Wales). The JIB-PMES is the body for the plumbing industry which determines the pay and conditions of plumbing operatives. The JIB also provides operative registration services under the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) related to health & safety competence on building sites . The JIB board is made up of employer (APHC ) and operative (Unite) representatives.
Gas Safe Register provides a statutory register of gas installation businesses in order to permit them to work safely and legally on gas appliances in the UK, Isle of Man and Guernsey. Gas Safe Register replaced CORGI as the gas registration body on the 1st April 2009.
The Specialist Engineering Contractors’ (SEC) Group comprises the construction industry’s premier trade associations: Association of Plumbing and Heating Contractors, British Constructional Steelwork Association, Electrical Contractors’ Association, Heating and Ventilating Contractors’ Association, Lift and Escalator Industry Association and SELECT. One of the main aims of the SEC group is to strive to secure better payment practices for specialist contractors in our sector.
The Plumbing and Heating Contractors Alliance is an overarching body for plumbing and heating businesses throughout the United Kingdom comprising of an alliance between the Association of Plumbing and Heating Contractors (APHC) and the Scottish and Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers´ Federation (SNIPEF).
The Plumbing and Mechanical Services (UK) Industry Pension Scheme was set up in 1975 with the aim of providing pension benefits for the plumbing, mechanical and allied services industry. The scheme is operated and administered by Plumbing Pensions, the Trustee of the scheme, appointed by APHC, SNIPEF and Unite. Directors from each of these bodies are nominated to the board of Plumbing Pensions and have an active role in the management of the trustee company.
