Green Deal Installer Scheme

Green Deal Installer Scheme

The Green Deal was introduced by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (now part of the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS)) to help consumers and companies reduce energy consumption through the installation of energy efficient measures to buildings.

A Green Deal Plan allows the installation of energy efficiency measures paid through the energy savings that are generated from their use. The reductions in the energy bills produced by the installation of energy efficient measures will be offset against a low interest loan attached to the property.

For impartial energy-saving advice to homes and businesses In England and Wales, please contact the Energy Saving Advice Service on 0300 123 1234. The advice provided is free, but calls are charged at the standard national rates.

For plumbing and heating companies to install energy efficient measures under the scheme they must become certified green deal installers to accreditation standards PAS2030 through a Green Deal certification body such as APHC Certification Ltd.

Plumbing and heating companies can join the scheme provided they meet the scheme requirements as outlined in the scheme documents, available to download below.

Following completion of the initial application form, the assessment process comprises of:

1. Desktop evaluation of the company management system. This part is a pre-check to confirm company readiness for its assessment under the scheme. Information on company procedures is provided to APHC Certification Ltd. for a desktop evaluation which takes place at our premises.

2. Head office assessment of the management system. This part of the process assesses the use and application of the company management system against the PAS2030 standard and the Green Deal Code of Practice at the applicant company’s business or home office.

3. On-site assessment of installed work areas. This part assesses competence to install each of the technical work areas against the PAS2030 standard that form the company’s application under the scheme. The company will need to show one example of an installation for each work area it wishes to be certified to install.

Once approved, companies will be registered with the Green Deal Oversight & Registration Body (www.gdorb.decc.gov.uk) and then have the ability to install and certify a range of permitted green deal work areas.

Scope of work areas:

• Condensing Gas Fired Boilers (Domestic)
• Condensing, Oil Fired Boilers (Domestic)
• Woody Biomass Boilers
• Ground and Air Source Heat Pumps

• Solar Thermal Hot Water Systems
• Heating Controls
• Heating System Insulation
• Underfloor Heating

As part of Green Deal arrangements, installers are required to ensure that Building Regulation requirements are fully complied with so in addition to the Green Deal Installer Scheme, companies can also join the Competent Persons Scheme and Microgeneration Certification Scheme.
