The financial protection scheme only covers defective workmanship that is non-compliant with the building regulations and directly attributed to installation work.
The scheme only covers work carried out in residential properties for the property owner. Business to business contracts are not included.
It only covers work within the scope of Building Regulations Approved Documents G, H, J, L & P and where the contractor is registered to undertake the work with APHC Certification in the first place. It only covers rectification of the work that does not comply and not any associated costs, liabilities or loss.
Each single claim is limited to £2,500 and one claim per dwelling.
The financial protection scheme only covers work undertaken as part of the APHC (Certification) Ltd. Competent Persons Scheme. The scheme does not provide cover for work undertaken outside of the APHC (Certification) Ltd. Competent Persons Scheme.
To be eligible to make a claim under the scheme, the work must have been self-certified by the contractor and a certificate issued by APHC for the works. Any Claim arising against work that has not been self-certified by the contractor and a certificate issued by APHC will not be eligible for claims purposes under the financial protection scheme.
A claim can only be made when the original installer cannot rectify the matter following full investigation under the APHC Certification complaints procedure, or after the original installer has ceased to trade.
A complaint must be made directly by the customer to APHC Certification within one month of discovering the work is non-compliant with the building regulations.
All complaints and claims are adjudged by the APHC Certification Impartiality Committee as qualifying under the protection scheme.
The financial protection covers a period of six years from date of notification to APHC.
